Computer Operated Pipe Cutter

Watch a short video on the W-244 & W-242

W-244 24 inch 4-axis Pipecutter Watts Specialties W-244 computer controlled pipecutters offer precise control of plasma or oxy-fuel cutting heads to create a wide variety of matching cuts for fabricated pipe. This rugged machine can create most required cuts including miters, saddle-miters, laterals, Y's, T's, crosses, offsets, K's and even intersections of 5 pipes at a single point. Structural cuts for joining beams and pipe are also offered. The fourth computer axis allows control over the bevel gap angle so weld penetration is deep and consistent. The Watts W-244 offers all of this capability for a reasonable price and with the backing of Watts Specialties - now in the business for over 30 years.

W-242 24 inch 2-axis Pipecutter When cutting thinner wall pipe or when the bevel angle is not as critical you can select our economical 2- axis machine. With the W-242 you still get all the flexibility of the W-244 4-axis machine for cutting the full range of miter, saddle-miters and intersecting connections. The W-242 allows you to set the torch angle manually rather than computer controlling the torch angle. If you don't need control of the bevel gap at steep angles the W-242 is a more economical solution and still fits the need of a high-volume pipe production shop. The W-242 includes the unique floating torch head and floating pipe clamp for cutting irregular pipe successfully. Call us for help selecting the right machine for your shop.

Selecting Multi-axis Pipecutters:

Computer or Cam-arm? When you need control of the mating bevel angle the Watts W-244 will give you complete 4-axis computer control to create a wide variety of cuts. The 4th axis lets you make controlled bevels and create a deep V gap allowing deep weld penetration without manual grinding. Watts Specialties also offers economical mechanical camarm machines that adjust the torch position with cams and wires. The Watts cam-arm drive machines can accomplish many of the cuts done on a fixed-bevel W-242 2-axis computer machine.

Why use a floating head? The Watts floating torch head and floating drive clamp allow you to accurate cut distorted and damaged pipe without stressing the machine. Our competitor's machines rely on rigidly chucked pipe that will jump in the carriage, stress the motors and create a distorted cut. Watts pipe cutting machines offer fully floating drives and torch heads for a smooth cut on almost any pipe. The unique mechanical system eliminates the cost and complexity of adding a 5th or 6th axis to the computer drives.

What is the payback? If you are preparing mitered and saddled pipe by hand you can often save over 80% of your labor and 80% of your time when you switch to a Watts machine. The traditional method of making templates, torching the cut and grinding the bevel can easily take 3-4 hours for a single cut. With a Watts machine you can program the cut, load the pipe, make the cut and unload the pipe in a matter of minutes. You can save even more time by adding side loading conveyors and by programming cuts ahead of time in your Engineering Department.
